Is There Some Magic Behind Waking Up Earlier?

Updated: Apr 27, 2022

I should say getting up, instead.

La Campagne Tropicana, Lagos, Nigeria, Snooze Button

Hello.

I'd first like to point out, as you hopefully enjoy this ironic photo, that I'm extremely anxious at the moment. The kind of anxiety that forces you to gloom alone under a blanket, in dim illumination, because darkness would give the mind too much liberty. I'm sure variants of it may be familiar, as it often takes a forceful front seat against everything else concerning you.

You're present, but you're not quite present.

I'm currently left in that state where I can't quite concentrate on anything, to the point where I'd prefer to just unplug my brain—until further notice at least. As a solution, I've decided to direct my thoughts to something that calms me—it's here. Congratulations. Kumbaya.

I want to inspect one constant aggravation in my life: Why can't I just get up in the morning? If you can relate, why can't we?

I'd like to hear my morning alarm(s)—which at this point, is myself—feel the annoyance that comes with it, but get up immediately because I have to. No more being awake, but then laying in bed to just be there, maybe check an email, etc., and then ending up consuming too much of my time to then forgo (or rush through) something beneficial.

I'm privy to the idea that sometimes that lack of motivation to immediately start the day stems from the fact that the day's schedule is unexciting to whoever experiences it. The issue here is, I'm wired to kick off once I actually get up—whether five or twenty minutes after my natural alarm. In other words, I would like to start kicking off when I'm supposed to. Especially outside vacation time. I truly admire highly intentional and efficient people (hi dad). It's a rare quality I would lend an arm to possess.

I will say, I've become uninspired by attempted motivation videos, quotes and speeches that have unfortunately faltered. I have exhausted the number of views/reads they can get. I mean, I can relate in the moment of reading it; I may even give you a passionate pew-occupant-during-sermon nod. That's often where the inspiration ends though. The next day—on successful occasions, a couple of days later—back to square one.

At this point, I'm looking for practical habit-forming behavioral suggestions. If you try this every time you get up, you feel more energetic and can't lay down anymore's. In other words, in this case, I'm a child in need of training.

Don't say stretch, I've tried that.

As I said earlier, Kumbaya. I'm still anxious.
